At Ipsos Retail Performance, we don’t take a one-size-fits-all approach to store footfall. Instead, we work closely with retailers to put the right people counter in place to meet their needs.

What is footfall?

As the name suggests, footfall  (also known as People Counting, Shopper Counting or traffic) refers to the number of people who walk into a store or shopping mall – so you can measure dwell time, track conversions and ensure you have enough staff at peak times.

We have been at the forefront of developing people counting software and retail technology for more than 25 years. All of our people counter sensors can accommodate multiple shoppers entering a store and come with the industry’s highest standard of more than 95 per cent accuracy over the contact.

How can I increase footfall?

Our people counting cameras capture the flow of potential customers that enter a store on an ongoing hour-by-hour basis, over a period of time. Driving up footfall gives you more opportunities to influence consumer behavior and increase sales, and retailers continually tempt customers into stores with offers, rewards and memorable experiences.

The most successful also understand the importance of retail intelligence from people counting systems. By aligning current footfall figures with historical data, managers can establish when a store is likely to be quiet or busy, and schedule staff members according to demand.

By identifying customer buying behavior and trends, you can:

  • Determine in-store activity
  • Assess the impact, performance and success of marketing initiatives
  • Tailor staffing schedules according to footfall patterns
  • Improve store layout and ease customer navigation
  • Optimize store performance
  • Maximize sales potential
  • Improve peel-off rates
  • It is not a case of one type of technology fits all – we are committed to getting the right people counting system in place for our clients.
