The rate of growth in the number of visits made to non-food stores in the UK improved in Q3. Against the same quarter of 2014, numbers were 0.6% higher, compared to a rise of just 0.1% in Quarter 2. For the year-to-date(q1 to Q3) footfall is now standing at 1.0% higher than last year.
“Enduring confidence in the state of the economy, in personal financial and job security and a discernible improvement in real earnings have all played their part in helping retail footfall levels to recover in Q3, after a lacklustre performance in Q2. Despite the popularity of online, it is very reassuring for retailers to see store footfall back on the rise, reflective of the ways that the channels are now being managed together to deliver convenient shopping experiences, rather than being operated separately and competitively against one another. ” Dr Tim Denison, director of retail intelligence at Ipsos Retail Performance
